Ferry Corsten is back on the White Isle to launch his Full on Ferry night at Ibiza’s new super club, Sankeys! We got the chance to fire some questions over to him to see what’s in store for us this summer. Here Ferry reveals how trance music is moving forward and tells us his favourite places to visit on the White Isle, as well as how his fans influence his music!
Love Ibiza: Your weekly residency at Ibiza’s newly built club, Sankeys, is taking place every Tuesday night this summer. What are your hopes for “Full on Ferry Ibiza”?
Ferry Corsten: I’m really happy that the “Full on Ferry” concept is back and being launched in Ibiza this summer. I’m really looking forward to being able to play back to back with the artists coming in this season.
The Full on Ferry launch party took place at the legendry Sankeys in Manchester earlier this month. What can you tell us about the newly built Sankeys in Ibiza and is it similar to the UK club?
I heard that the club is looking great and that they made some massive renovations to the place. I’ll be flying out on Tuesday to check it out!
The Full on Ferry Ibiza lineup looks fantastic – is it right that you handpicked the artists yourself? Will there be any surprises in store for us this summer season?
Yes I personally handpicked the DJs. Like I said before they are all DJs that I have a click with, whether it’s their music or their DJ skills. Yes we do have some surprises in store but you have to come and check them out yourselves at Sankeys Ibiza.
Sankeys Ibiza is said to have one of the best sound systems on the White Isle. How will Sankeys acoustic capabilities aid you in creating the ultimate trance experience?
It will not be a trance experience but a musical experience. I hope to take the crowd by the hand with other DJs and lead them on a magic musical journey through the night!
You have been voted the best trance DJ by the Ibiza DJ awards and have been playing for over a decade. What keeps you playing trance music and are you tempted to create or produce music of another genre?
I am still playing trance but also mixing it up with house or proghouse. Nowadays the house and trance sounds have been fused into a great new style or EDM. It’s a lot more than trance nowadays. The first single Feel It of my upcoming album has a 128BPM and my new single Check It Out has the same BPM. There are definitely trance elements in both tracks but also different styles of EDM in the tracks. I like to experiment with my sound.
What artists and DJs inspire you the most and is there anyone you would like to collaborate with that you haven’t already?
I have a lot of DJs that inspire me, for instance Carl Cox who’s been DJing for as long as I can remember. Also it’s nice to see some new talents. Regarding the collabs, I do have a wish list but I will keep this a secret.
You seem keen to engage your fans via your XM radio show “Corsten Countdown”. How important are your fans to you and do they influence your work?
Of course the fans are really important to me. Without my fans I wouldn’t be able to be able to do what I do. I read the comments on Corsten’s Countdown and the listeners can influence the show by voting on their favourite track of the show. We will soon be changing the format of Corsten’s Countdown a bit but the listeners are still in control.
You are a member of the World Team for the charity WWF. How important is this line of work for you and how does music play a role in this?
I chose to support this cause because I think nature is very important to me. I have a little girl and I would like to know that she can see as much of the beauty of our nature as I have seen.
If you could only play one more set, ever, where would it be and who would you include in the line-up?
Wow that would be a good question.
The Love Ibiza team really LOVE Ibiza- what are the top 3 places in Ibiza that you love?
Salinas for the beach, Sa Capella to eat and Sankeys for Clubbing!
