Ibiza is known as the magical island, so what better place to say your vows than a place with a name like this?!
Ibiza is famous for its diversity of areas, cultures and experiences, so there really is a perfect wedding destination here to suit everybody. With the average costs of Weddings in the UK standing at £18,000, coming out of a recession may look like the worst time to get married. Actually, it could be the perfect reason to add a twist to your wedding, and get married abroad. The one problem of this if you are hoping for a few guests at your wedding - is cost, but thanks to budget airlines, pretty much every airport in the UK has flights to Ibiza, and usually at a relatively low cost.
So, the question has been popped, the engagement party is done... what now? Once you have both decided on Ibiza as your destination, the first task is to decide what kind of wedding you want. There are 3 ways to get married in Ibiza:
1) If one of you (doesn’t have to be both of you) is Catholic, then you can get married in one of the Islands beautiful whitewashed churches. This option is fully legal and binding. The first thing would be to go and see your Parish Priest at home, and ask his permission to get married in another church. This will pretty much always get approved, but you may be asked to complete a short ‘preparation for marriage’ course. These tend to only last a day and are quite good fun! Once it is approved, the paperwork is sent to the Bishop in Ibiza, and you can start looking at churches over there. Two beautiful ones are in Santa Eulalia and San Carlos. Both priests here are English speaking. Once this is booked you can get cracking with the planning.
2) If you want to get married in a church but are not Catholic, you can still have a church ceremony with the usual vows and orders of service, at an Anglican church on the island. This is not legally binding, so most couples register their marriages before they go, but have their actual wedding celebration in Ibiza.
3) If a church isn’t your thing, then what better place to have your ceremony than on an imposing clifftop, a hippy beach, a boutique villa, or any other beautiful Balearic location you fancy?! If you register your marriage in the UK before you go, you can have a ‘spiritual blessing’ where you can choose the content and vows of the service. If you want a very relaxed and informal ceremony, or something very different, this may be the best option for you.
Once your actual ceremony is booked, you can start looking for your reception venues. Nestled around the island are the most amazing boutique villas or 500 year old fincas, surrounded by orange blossom and lemon trees, with stunning views. You may want to book a villa, restaurant, bar or club for your reception, but the secret is to choose whatever suits you and your partner the most. There are so many options you are spoilt for choice! Everything you will want for your big day is in Ibiza, and everything of a really high standard. There are some of the best caterers/beauticians/musicians in Europe based in Ibiza.
If you choose to get married in Ibiza, one thing is for sure – your day will be unforgettable, for all of the right reasons.
