Portinatx
Ibiza Holiday Resorts
Although there’s a lot to be said for Ibiza as a beautiful holiday spot – golden sands, great weather, pine forested hills and clear blue sea – it’s only really when you go to somewhere like Portinatx that you can see how lovely the island really is.
The resort is the largest on the north coast of Ibiza and probably not the first choice for many of the clubbers who descend on the island who want to be smack, bang in the middle of all the action. However, it still has a wide appeal – for families looking for a child friendly but still lively place to base themselves during their holiday, and for clubbers who just want some peace and quiet to recuperate in between sessions. If you’d rather rest your eyes on pine clad hills and a horse-shaped beach, than people who still haven’t made it to bed, when your head is pounding after the night before, then take a look at Portinatx as a holiday destination.
Portinatx Beaches
The resort is lucky to have a total of three gorgeous beaches, all equipped with the usual sun loungers and parasols and watched over by lifeguards, making them a great place to take the kids into the sea. The beaches have high, rocky shorelines and a seabed of white, powdery sand, which is far nicer under foot than rocks or pebbles I can tell you. The three beaches are called S'Arenal Gros (which is the largest), S'Arenal Petit (which is more private) and Playa Porto Beach, which is in a little cove at the end of the main road and has its very own lighthouse. The beaches are all located in the resort so are easily reachable and if you’re staying in nearby San Antonio, you can get the boat around the coast.
The sea around Portinatx offers excellent opportunities for snorkeling as the water is so clear, and the coastline is the perfect place for taking in the beauty of the island on foot. This resort is a great base from which to set off up and down the coast where you can feast your eyes on some beautiful views. If you’re feeling very athletic, there is a 10 k walk from Portinatx to Punta de Xarraca, well known as one of the most difficult cliff walks on the island. But if you still want some exposure to the natural beauty of the island and bobbing around gently on the ocean is more your thing, glass bottom boat rides are available from nearly every port and are a great opportunity to see some marine wildlife without even getting your feet wet.

Things to do in Portinatx
Despite the fact that Portinatx is not known for its nightlife, it is surprisingly active when the sun goes down, with most of the action based around the music bars, pubs and quiz nights. Restaurants are plentiful too and many have wonderful sea views and terraces, the perfect place to sit and sip a vino blanco in the warm light of the setting sun. Many offer the kind of fresh fish you could only get so close to the ocean and all are pretty child friendly.
It is a little known fact that Portinatx was the setting for some of the scenes in the film South Pacific and once you’ve seen the beaches and that wonderful coastline, it’s easy to see why the resort was chosen to represent an image of paradise.
