Manumission

Unfortunately, Manumission no longer takes places in Ibiza, but this legendry event will remain a clubbers favourite for years to come. After a dispute with Privilege in 2007, Manumission was forced to find another venue, and became a weekly party (Friday's) at Amnesia. However, the reality was that this had all been a financial disaster for the Manumission team and so it could no longer continue.

What happened to Manumission in Ibiza?

Manumission, Ibiza's and probably the world's most famous party was 'sabotaged' back in 2007 by Privilege who decided to close its doors on the Manumission team the very night they were due to perform. Love Ibiza were there when news broke out and witnessed the widespread disappointment amongst clubbers on the island at this surprising act. Surprising because Manumission had filled the Privilege venue for 14 years. Performance art and sex icons Mike and Claire commented, "We were very sad to leave Privilege, but what they did to us was appalling and meant we could no longer trust them" (Mixmag, June 2009).

Having only two days to set up the move from Privilege to Amnesia at the height of the season, Manumission managed to carry on delivering the best party on the island throughout 2008. However, simply the money had ran out and Manumission ceased to exist in Ibiza in 2009. There was also the issue that the event just wan't as good at Amnesia as it was at Privilege, Mike and Claire commented, "Manumission was good in Amnesia [last year], but it was great in Privilege" (Mixmag, June 2009).
 

Is it really the end for Manumission?

We hope not! Since ending in Ibiza, Manumission has set its sights on dominating the world with their world tour in 2009. Unfortunately, Manumission experienced another setback when they were due to host the last ever party at the London Astoria in January 2009, but were forced to cancel due to Transport for London's ill timings for the venue's closure to make way for Crossrail and the inability of all parties to secure the glittering line-up they had planned, and so reluctantly Manumission had to pull out.

There is a rumour Manumission is looking to make a film similar to the black and white silent films they used to play during their club nights, Mike says "We have a really important story to tell – we’re writing the screenplay now and it’s based on truth" (Mixmag, June 2009).

It's unclear when Manumission will announce their next adventure, but we'll tell you this- when it does return (whether it be to Ibiza or the UK), you can be sure it'll be better than ever before!
