I've been a bit late posting this, been away for a bit. The Ibiza BBC Radio 1 weekend 2010 is going to be on the weekend of the 6th-8th August. This is a week later than we were predicting based on the dates from the last few years.

For anyone who doesn't know radio 1 weekend in Ibiza is the busiest few days of the season with a number of special parties put on by the BBC which are broadcast live on the radio back home. Without further adue here's our run-down of the 2010 Radio 1 weekend in Ibiza...

Increasingly long weekends, or short holidays during the week seem to be becoming popular with the Ibiza crowd.  Just like cricket went from 5 days to 1 to 20 overs, Ibiza holidays which used to mean a week (or even 2) away, for many are now crammed into a couple of days.

It's easy to see the appeal. Short breaks are cheaper, perhaps meaning you can fit a couple of little holidays into a summer rather than 1 big one. For returning visitors who aren't ready to give up their Ibiza days but perhaps can't commit to a whole week of partying anymore a long weekend is perfect. Maybe there's a particular party you want to catch- no point going all the way to Ibiza for 1 night, may as well make it a mini holiday!

 

So how do you get the most out a shorter holiday in Ibiza?

Pick your dates carefully - don't you hate it when you book a 7 night holiday and you only end up getting 5 days because of how the flights work out? Well that's even worse if your holidays only 3 nights! Look for holiday deals which fly out early on your day of departure and return late on the day you leave. If you're taking time off work you might want to try and organise your break around a bank holiday (the august one is on 30th August this year) that way you can spend another day without booking it off work. Alternatively book over the radio 1 weekend (weekend of 6th august this year) which is the busiest weekend of the season in Ibiza.

Plan ahead - book everything in advance. Flights and hotel but also airport parking and transfers. Don't forget to pick up some euros before you leave. A short holiday is all about maximising your free time so a minute spent at a cash machine is a minute of holiday wasted!

Travel light - if your Ibiza holidays only a few days do you really need that big suitcase with the wheels? Travel with hand luggage only and zip through baggage reclaim. Remember the rules on liquids at the airport and only pack the little travel size bottles of mouthwash, toothpaste etc.

Club nights - research these before you go and have a plan of what nights you're going to do. We've given some possible itineraries below. You might want to book your club tickets before you leave to save a bit of time and avoid any disappointments with parties you want to hit being sold out.

Day trips - if you're only in Ibiza for a few days you should really resist the temptation to turn nocturnal for the weekend and spend the days in your hotel. Plan a few days out, get to some beaches, do a boat trip or treat yourself to a spa session.

Ibiza Rocks have just added Ian Brown to their summer lineup which is looking pretty decent this year. I've seen Ian Brown a few times live over the years, usually he's excellent, occassionally terrible like at hiFi festival a few years back (although that whole weekend was a washout!) and think this could be a really good venue to catch him at. You can catch Ian brown at Ibiza Rocks on 15th June - see the club calendar for tickets.

Other notable mentions from the Ibiza Rocks 2010 programme for me are Prodigy on 20th July, Dizzee Rascal on the 27th July and florence and the machine on 24th August. If you're hoping to go to any of these nights I think tickets will be hot so buy in advance.

Good news for Cream fans, the 2010 Cream @ Amnesia lineup has been announced, and it rocks. Cream favourite Paul Van Dyk is set to return with Eric Prydz and Ferry Corsten scheduled to make regular appearences during the summer.

One big name on the Cream lineup which I know a lot of readers are interested in following his meteoric rise to superstardom in 2009 is Deadmau5 who will take up a residency in Amnesia's backroom, 'the (Mixmag) Terrace' for 7 nights during the season.

Cream have just confirmed our predicted date of the 17th June 2010 for their Ibiza opening party this summer, once again spending the season at their home of Amnesia. Check out the Cream opening party 2010 listing on the Ibiza club calendar where the lineup will be announced once we have it.

The Cream closing party will be on Thursday 30th September 2010 with Cream playing every thursday in between these dates as usual. This is one of the biggest opening parties of the season and one to look forward to. Ibiza 2010 is truly on its way now!

Another trophy for the mantel of superstar DJ, Tiesto as love Ibiza users voted him the best DJ of the 2009 season. The results from our recent Ibiza census survey showed Tiesto was your favourite DJ from last year following his mammoth Ibiza season playing a weekly residency Tiestio @ privilege, which also scooped the award for best party.

Congratulations to Tiesto and the hard working crew behind the Tiesto at privilege night on this award and we're all looking forward to seeing what Tiesto's got in store for the 2010 season!

Love Ibiza visitors have voted for Amnesia as their favourite club of 2009 in our recent Ibiza census survey,  the full results of which you can see here.
