Ibiza Spending Money
Posted by: IbizaBlog in spending money, ibiza on a budget on May 22, 2009
The Ibiza season is starting imminently! This week sees the Ibiza Music Conference and once that finishes the clubs all start to open. That means there is not long to go until your all on the plane paying the island a visit. What may be more pressing on people's minds is there isn't long to finish saving for your trip, Ive got one payday left and that's a scary thought!
Spending money and how much to take is a common question specially from people who have not been before. If you haven't been before and you have no idea what things cost in Ibiza then its very easy to leave yourself very short. In the past ive been there with not much money and ive also been there with money coming out of my ears but one thing I can guarantee is that no matter how much you take you will not have any left when you leave!
The answer to the question ‘how much spending money do I need' really depends on you and what you want to do when you are there. If you don't want to go to the clubs and just want to chill on the beach your whole holiday then id probably advise going somewhere else because it will be cheaper! The more you want to do in terms of clubbing then the more you need to take.
If your holiday lasts for 2 weeks and you want to go out every night to a club then you can expect to spend £1,500 easily, I went in 2001 for 14 night went to a club every night and I ran out of money with £1,500. Now days the prices are higher than they were back then so you would need to take that into consideration.
When I go now I generally go out every other night or less, taking into consideration the current prices then I would plan and save to take enough money for £100 a day. If I was at home I would have a heart attack if I spend £100 a day but Ibiza is your holiday and once you have bought your club ticket had some dinner, a snack in the day, a couple of drinks on the beach you will probably find that £100 a day quickly disappears.
Lots of people ask me whether they should buy their club tickets before you travel or once you are there. This is a question that has a 50/50 response. You will probably find that a lot of the tickets are between €30 and €50 obviously the higher price for places like Sundays at space. I personally never buy tickets before I fly out. Ive found that once I am there I can usually sniff out some decent tickets weather its with a free bus or just discounted because it's the night of the event and they are selling the tickets off cheap to get more people there. Sitting one night in Coastline I have been given free tickets for Armada before, Free tickets for clubs like Eden have been given out on the street when I have been there, I wouldn't however make getting free tickets your plan because for all the times I have been it doesn't happen all the time but it is something that has happened. Pre parties are generally the best place for this but after 12 or even 1 when the club is already open.
One thing that is happening this year which is a first and something ive never seen before is Cream offering 40% of tickets to cream@amnesia if you buy them from cream before you travel, this is something I probably will do before I travel.
The other thing that surprises people when they go to the clubs in Ibiza is the price of the drinks when you are in there. If all you want is a bottle of water you can expect to pay €8+ for one bottle in most of the clubs. Beer and spirits are more expensive than that, Your probably looking at €20+ for 2 beers. Because of this I would always advise having a few drinks before you go to the clubs.
The moral of the story is basically don't expect a cheap holiday, the more money you save then the more you will enjoy. If I have just priced out the option to go to any clubs when you are there then it doesn't mean you won't see any dj's, the pre parties in Ibiza are awesome! Many of the dj's play at their own pre parties and if you are short on cash then this is a great way to still see the dj's you wanted to see!
Im sure there will be lots of people who agree and completely disagree with my experience, if so why not leave a comment on your thoughts on how much money to take to Ibiza this year
Regards
Gary

Yes it is expensive, but it always has been... my theory now is.. Idod not want to go to space foe 10-12 hours and
drink 3 botles of water, i want the full experiance. So my plan of attack for the last 5-6 years is flyout thursaday and
back on tuesday, thus enabling cream, pacha and we love...last year alone our bill (2 people) for we love was over
500 euro... but it was worth every cent... I also have the thought that after only 4 days at least you still have the chance
of being alive... the last time I did 10 days i was off work the following 2 weeks...

Drinks are mega expensive in clubs, 8euros for a very very small bottle of water and 20+ euros for a couple of beers...but at that time of the morning i generally find i dont want to be drinking anyhow!!
I didnt find i was watching my money and always have been ok. I have been to Ibiza alot as we have a house just outside San An (which is probably why i spend alot less) but if you want to eat out for all your meals, hit a club and get plastered every night you can expect to rinse 800+ in a weeks holiday easy.
Im off soon for ibiza rocks, cream, eden, and no idea what else yet... and i only plan to take £350... mad..maybe... cant handle my drink..positive.

My original plan was to go out 6 nights in superclubs, and not the last night as we had to get early on the 30th to catch our plane. I had a budget of 250 Euro a night, making up for a total of 1500 Euro (this did not include flights and accomodation costs).
We went to Bora Bora every day and short-evening, after which we usually had a pre-party to reload on drinks, followed by a bus ride to the club of the night. We got (I suppose) a fair deal for 50 euro giving a 3h pre-party with free drinks + bus ride for both Thursday to El Divino and Friday to Amnesia.
Night six was a Tuesday and we were on the strip in Playa d'en Bossa getting a drink in a bar. We were lucky to get in Space (Carl Cox @ Tuesdays - Highly recommended), even though we didn't plan to go out that night, for as little as 10 euro (!). However, we had to enter Space before 10pm. As we've got a similar deal for Saturday night in Space (Hed Kandi - 15 euro before 11pm), I thought there wouldn't be much people at that time, but the truth is the Terrace in Space was packed and the party had already started! This wasn't the case with the Hed Kandi party, which became full only around 1-2am (my friends left by then, but I had a crazy night just on my own till closing time).
That night in Space Moby played a dj set which turned out to be the very best performance I've heard during our week on the island. All in all, not bad at all for a 10 euro door price!
Me and my clubbing friend went to Pacha later on, where we could enter for 10 euro / person (it was around 3 - 4 am then, I guess) where Fedde le Grand was playing. We only had one drink in Pacha as we really hated the place and even more the very commercial music we heard trough the speakers (really felt like the clubs at home), so we quickly left for Amnesia. The lovely lady behind the counter there let us even in for free
Night seven we should have go to sleep early as we had to wake at 7am the next morning for our return flight. Me and my clubbing friend just went to the Playa d' En Bossa strip for a long island iced tea, as we bumped into four females who stayed in the hotel room just below us (we had talked before). All four of them had tickets for Privilege that night (Meganite), but we could sneak on to the free bus where my friend suddenly gave me a free-entrance bracelet (it appears he has gotten it from one of the girls)... So our last night was definitely the cheapest one :-)
I ran out of money after 5 days / nights, as did my friend. Thankfully, it was the end of the month and I had a Visa card :-) Not including our accommodation nor flights, we have spent 2000 Euro a person. That's for one week, and mostly spent on alcohol in clubs / bora bora and tickets. What the other guy who didnt go with us that much spent, I don't really know. As we are from Belgium, we usually drink beers but after a while the San Miguel and Budweiser tasted so bad to us we switched to the more expensive mixed drinks (like Wodka-Orange and Gin-Tonic).
Our hotel included breakfast and 1 daily meal, which we took in the evening. The breakfast we didn't take (obviously).
I can tell you one week definately is too much if you party like we did / do when we party (includes heavy drinking). Four nights would be really enough if you plan to party this way. And we are known to party very hard where we come from (my friends even gave me the nickname Duracell when they came to know me). I still can't imagine how you can last 2 weeks on this superb island.
Hotel + flights was 900 euro / head, but this was mainly because we booked only one month in advance. If you would take a jet apartment and book your own flights (which we will do next time), I guess it must be possible for 500 euro or even less (for a week) if you are with 4 people.
So is the 2900 euro spent / head for one week worth it? Yes it is. Though I still find it crazy to spend all that money in such a short time... We're already saving for next year.

I am going to Ibiza on the 16th of Sept 09, but staying in Port des Torrent. I am definitely not a clubber and am looking forward to the more cheesy silly side of a Spanish holiday, beach, markets, pools etc. I was hoping to take £500 / £550 for a week and my boyfriend the same. Will this be enough? I plan to do all the silly touristy things in Ibiza. Any help would be appreciated!!!
Thanks

I reckon your sums are about right although there are always cheaper ways to do things if you're so inclined- like blagging free press tickets cos you've got a blog about Ibiza
Without stereotyping too much it also seems like girls don't seem to spend as much out there as lads when this conversation comes up. What's the secret ladies??!
