The Radio 1 dance team are back in Ibiza this year for a weekend of parties and special radio shows from locations across the island.
The Radio 1 weekend has deserved its reputation over the past few years as the hottest dates to be in Ibiza during the season. After much speculation Pete Tong announced the dates for the 2009 weekend a couple of weeks ago and the lineup is pretty cool. In this post we're going to do a full run down of whats going on during the weekend with video clips of the dj's and live acts you'll be able to catch.
If you're out in Ibiza for the weekend and don't have a ticket be sure to check out our wicked Cream @ Privilege ticket giveaway to be in on one of the biggest nights in Ibiza history!
Friday 31st July
Ibiza Rocks Hotel Party
The first night of the weekend happens on the friday 31st July at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel. The same location as last years Radio 1 parties. By all accounts this was a really popular venue for the live PA's last year. The Ibiza Rocks hotel is popular with the Radio 1 crowd anyway and the hotel doesn't have the same space limitations as previous venues which have included Cafe Mambo and Bar M.
If you're going to the party the BBC website lists the start time as 4pm but at the tiime of writing ticketing details are not available. The website lists 'first come first serve' but you will need a ticket to get into this event. The Ibiza Rocks Hotel is also completely booked that weekend. Check back and we'll have ticketing details as soon as we get them.
8-10pm Pete Tong & Vernon Kay Live Show
Vernon went down well at last years Radio 1 weekend and is being primed to take up the mantel of Radio 1's Dance poster boy. Here he's teaming up with the legend that is Pete Tong for this 2 hour show broadcast live on Radio 1 (will be an hour earlier in the UK i.e. 7-9pm).
Special guests:
Deadmau5
Deadmau5 has become a household name in the UK over the past 6 months but he's been establishing himself as a producer on the electro/ house scene for a few years now. In May 2009 his track 'I Remember' got to number 14 in the UK charts.
According to his official website Deadmau5 will be performing his new single 'Ghosts n Stuff'. He'll also be playing a set at Eden later on the Friday night. If you're a Deadmau5 fan Eden will be the better place to catch him, it looks like his appearance at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel party will only be a 1 songer.
Steve Angello
Steve Angello of Swedish House mafia fame will also be doing a set from the Ibiza Rocks party on the friday. He'll be doing a set at the party, I would presume this will be a short 10-15 minute slot.
Florence and the machine
If you haven't seen Florence and the machine perform live you should check out her Glastonbury set from earlier in the year where she put in an awesome live performance. She will be doing an 'acoustic sunset moment' at the party which will be similar to Pete Tongs usual 'calm before the storm' feature.

10-12pm Annie Mac live set
Annie Mac is a big name on the Ibiza circuit nowadays with her regular slots at Cream and Pacha. She's also one of the hardest working Radio One dj's with her mashup show and BBC 'Switch'. Her friday night shows usually feature mashups and are sometimes more DnB focused but she can do house as well. The atomosphere at the Ibiza Rocks party should be pretty electric by this point and I'd expect Annie to really get the party going!
Special guests:
MiIke Snow
Miike Snow are a swedish trio described by the Guardian as
"the brains behind Britney's Toxic, and their coolly emotional pop suggests a-ha meets Animal Collective"Ôªø
You've probably heard their catchy 'Animal' single. This should be an interesting show and a good mix up from the electonic stuff. Check out Miike Snow's MySpace to find out more about the group.
Fake Blood
Fake Blood aka Dj Touche is the guy behind that Mars track. Don't know much more about him so here's what his Last Fm profile says:
"Fake Blood is an alias used by DJ Touch√©, also half of The Black Ghosts (which Touch√© has remixed under the Fake Blood alias). His original productions included two major club hits, “Mars” and “Blood Splashing (Fake Blood Theme)”. He has done remixes for Dan Le Sac, Armand van Helden, SINDEN/The Count, UNKLE and others."
Pendulum
Pendulum put on some intense live shows and can usually be counted on to bash out their big 'Propane Nightmares' hit. Expect this to really get the Ibiza Rocks crowd jumping.
Essential Mix live from Wonderland @ Eden
Next stop for the Ibiza weekend its over to Eden in San Antonio for a special edition of Pete Tong's Wonderland night featuring Deadmau5 and Luciano. Wonderland was new to Ibiza last year and has quickly established itself as a top Friday night party.
Tickets to this party are around the $50 mark and available from a number of places. I'd recommend Ibiza Spotlight.
We've talked about Pete Tong and Deadmau5 above. Both will be appearing at the big Ibiza Rocks Hotel party earlier in the night.
Luciano
Chilian Techno specialist Luciano is well respected amongst his dj peers and his slot on this big night is certainly an endorsement of that fact. He's been on the scene since the late 90's and has developed a distinct minimal style. Check out his profile on RA or his MySpace to learn more.
Saturday 1st August
Cream @ Privilege

This is a huge lineup for the climax of the Radio 1 weekend with all 3 rooms at Privilege The Worlds biggest nightclub!
Its good to see Radio 1 taking this night to Privilege so as many clubbers as possible can get the chance to see this top line up of DJs in the awesome setting of Privilege. The thing that really struck me about this line up is that although its a Cream night theres something for everyone with a really good mix of styles. Here's who's playing...
Main Room
Eric Prydz
Needs no introduction these days, Swedish DJ and producer Eric Prydz is still best known in commercial circles for his massive 'Call on me' hit which topped the UK chart in 2004 (can you believe that was 5 years ago!!).
Think this might be your only chance to catch him in Ibiza this summer. Interestingly his MySpace says he's playing Amnesia- hopefully he'll turn up at the right place!
Pete Tong
Good to see Pete on a Cream lineup dispite his Wonderland commitements. It couldn't be a Radio 1 night without Pete Tong on the bill.
Laidback Luke
Dutch DJ Laidback Luke should really be able to get this night going in the masive main room. Think this might be the first time he's played Privilege.
Judge Jules
Great to see Jules on the bill for the first of two huge nights for him (Judgements Sundays on the 2nd). Sure to drop a few anthems to get this crowd in the mood.
Gareth Wyn
Cream Resident Gareth Wyn will kick the night off with some high energy techno. One of the rising starts of the Ibiza scene.
Back room or La Vaca
2manydjs
The Soulwax crew have been one of the most popular 'alternative' dj acts of recent years since their prominent 2002 compilation which propelled them from relative bootleg obscurity to mainstream success. Their fast paced live dj sets will be great for this crowd and offer a bit of everything.
Zane Lowe
Zane has been a regular fixture on the Ibiza scene as the resident dj at Ibiza Rocks for the past few years. Live he can play anything from hip-hop to the arctic monkeys but he can turn in a good dancier set as well as he's shown at Ibiza Rocks.
Annie Mac
Annie is a regular in the backroom of Cream at Amnesia pumping out some awesome electro/ dubstep/ d'n'b, always a crowd pleaser.
Kissy Sell Out
Completing the Radio 1 contingent. Kissy is one of the newest Dj's to take up Radio 1's friday night dance lineup. Before Radio 1 he's also been a successful producer, prolefic remixer and DJ specialising in high energy electro.
Coco Loco Room
Heidi
Heidi was first recognised on the Ibiza scene in 2006 when she released Monza club Ibiza vol 1. She's been a regular at Space in Ibiza and is also host to the In new dj's we trust show on BBC radio 1.
Oliver
Presume this is Dj Oliver of The Face of Ibiza but not much info on this from Cream, more to follow.
Jaymo & Andy George
This pair of young electro boys were nominated as Kissy Sell Out's 'favourite new DJ's' on the BBC introducing tour. genuinely up and coming these guys are well worth catching just so yoou can say in 10 years 'I saw them when they were just starting out!'
Rachel Barton
Rachel Barton describes her style as 'jackin, bouncy, bassy house music' on her MySpace. She's played all around the UK and been featured on Annie Mac presents.
