Fire Performer in Ibiza!

Energy EntertainmentsOne performance watched in Australia ; the creation of a handmade fire staff; fire for the first time; mesmerised by the sound; hypnotised by the flames; pores open from the heat ; all senses heightened; no thoughts; no distractions; a time to express ; one moment; one chance ; complete enjoyment. That’s how it all started 8 years ago, but for the past 4 years, Ibiza has been my playground.

The Beginning

I first arrived in Ibiza in August 2008 and was blown away by the sheer energy of the place. This Island was happening! It had everything, people, music, culture and atmosphere. It never seemed to sleep and neither did I.  The White Island has it all, beautiful and unique beaches, amazing views, scenic walks, outdoor markets, great food and restaurants, spirituality, yoga and relaxation, water sports, reefs, snorkelling and diving and of course the best bars and clubs in the world. Ibiza can offer you pretty much anything!

The reason I came to Ibiza was to create the best fire show the island has ever seen with Adam Mahmoud. Adam and I had met the year before on the Mekong River travelling to Laos from Thailand on a slow boat. We both had common interests and a love for fire performance. We understood that the other would put 100% into anything he set his mind to and while creating fire shows for local bars on the Island of Koh Tao we became Advanced, First Aid and Rescue scuba divers. We pushed each other to our limits and we craved adrenalin. Whether snorkelling with sharks, jumping off cliffs or fire dancing we gave it our all and loved it.

San Antonio was our first destination to show case our show, we began by busking in front of numerous bars such as Sun Sea Bar on the sunset strip and Tulip Bar in the bay. We received immense positive feedback from all that watched our show and the name of two fire artists calling themselves Energy Entertainments grew.

Fire performer IbizaOn a roll...

In 2009 we began performing seven nights a week all over the Island and even created shows at weddings and private villa parties for Spanish, Dutch, German, British, Swiss, French and Russians all over the Island from Cala Jondal to Portinatx. Our season was on a roll and we were on fire.

Performing for a Spanish wedding party in Gecko Beach Club Formentera was one of the highlights of the year for me. But the show I looked forward to the most on a weekly basis was the ‘Seal Pit’ at The Zoo Project every Saturday night. The energy was electrifying, with the DJ and speakers behind, a pool of water in front and a tier of people dancing in pure ecstasy, I sincerely loved every minute.

At the end of the 2009 season in Ibiza Adam and I organised the launch party of Artist Productions. We held the event at a villa in Cala Jondal alongside the 2009 Pacha Model Awards. We organised the door staff, DJ’s, dancers, African drummers, Capoeira martial artists, drag queens, fire artists, singers and performed ourselves. We invited people from all over the White Island and had the most memorable closing party to end the season.

It was an amazing 6 months for our fire shows and maybe one day I will write about the other adventures we embarked upon: trance parties in the forest, parties on the beach, snorkelling explorations, raves in caves, and a lot more.

Hello Benirras!

fire performer ibizaAfter a long winter performing around Europe Adam and I were ready for the summer season of 2010 in Ibiza.

Our weekends were long. We were offered by the Minx Fx to become performance managers and help organise the team for the SNP party (Zoo project after party) at Privilege. We would start Saturday at 1pm by constructing the stage and finished at 6pm. Then it was time for a quick shower and bite to eat before heading off to Gala Night to pick up the dancers and parade girls. After a few finishing touches, the doors would open and the clubbers would arrive. After 5 performances and a lot of running around we would finish for the night at 6am. At 11am on Sunday, Adam and I were back in the club dismantling the stage and finished by 3pm. Hello Benirras!

We also performed memorable shows at Blue Marlin, Pacha Hotel, Novum, Las Dalias, Talamanca, Km5, Café Sidney and more. We have presented our show to corporate events such as Crocs and L’Oreal and were a support act for Faithless, (Maxi Jazz) at Privilege the worlds biggest club. The season was fun packed and our show was reaching new heights.

This year...

I love Ibiza but was unable to stay the full season this year. The forest fires in May 2011 hit us hard and prevented us from performing a lot of shows. I understand people have a fear of fire and I was deeply upset to see the beautiful part of the northwest island in flames. I hope the people of Ibiza will continue to see the beauty in our shows despite the tragedy. My heart goes out to all affected by the fires and hope the forest grows back strong and abundant.

Seeing your fire shows was definitely the most impressively magical thing i've seen in Ibiza during all the years i've been coming here- and especially in Ibiza, that's saying a lot. The island misses you guys as much as you miss it. I hope more and more people get the chance to catch the show.
