Interview with Richard Dinsdale

Richard DinsdaleWe got the chance to speak with Disco Tech House DJ Richard Dinsdale about his special date at Amnesia on 4th September and his love of the White Isle! Here Dinsdale reveals his favourite House parties in Ibiza and what it takes to make it to the top! Watch this space, as rumour has it he's in talks about starting a new residency at a certain superclub next year. You heard it here first!

Love Ibiza (LI): You will be coming to the White Isle this summer season; can you tell us more about the events you will be playing and what’s in store for Ibiza’s house-loving crowds?

Richard Dinsdale (RD): Due to studio commitments I will only be hitting the White Isle once this year for a special date at Amnesia on the 4th Sept. I’m really excited to be playing there as it’s one of the best clubs in the world and I have a special selection of Disco Tech House Music from myself and some great up & coming producers on my new label Tanzanite Records.

LI: What would you say the best parties in Ibiza are for experiencing true House Music?

RD: Be at Space with Wally Lopez is a great party, as Wally really knows how to handle a crowd and pulls out some great house music. Defected in the house at Pacha on Saturdays is a great night and Cocoon at Amnesia if you want to go a little darker.

LI: You have experienced a rapid rise to the top; what attributes do you think one should have if aiming to make it as an accomplished DJ?

RD: Dedication and a passion for music not just the style you want to make but various styles. I listen to everything from Metallica right through to Curtis Mayfield and Donna Summer and feel I get a lot of inspiration from these artists to create my sound. Make sure you are yourself and be nice because no one likes someone who is fake and not a gentleman.

LI: You were originally head-hunted by Ministry of Sound and have since been performing around the world! But can you tell us where you enjoy playing most and why?

RD: Well recently I played in Sweden at Port Du Soleil and the crowd were great and I was well looked after.  I really like Amnesia in Ibiza though; it’s such an amazing super club with a sound system that just blows my mind every time I play on it.

LI: What have been the biggest influences on your music and how would you differentiate your sound from other House DJs?

RD: Artists like Metallica, Curtis Mayfield, Paul Simon, Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, lots and lots of 70’s disco like BT Express but just too many to name and pretty much anything on Motown Records have been a big influence on my music. I listen to these types of artists studying the way they go about layering out there tracks and the type of sounds they use but mainly just listen to them because they make great music. I would like to say my sound is different because it’s just a Richard Dinsdale style…. it’s hard to describe but it’s pretty much straight up good techy disco house with soul and nothing dark that would just make you plod on the dance floor. I like to feel my music makes you happy when you’re on the dance floor.

LI: Tell us more about Tanzanite Records and why you decided to launch your own UK Dance Music Label.

RD: I’m so excited about this project as my brother Simon Dinsdale and myself have been talking about this for a while now but we’ve really invested a lot of time into this project to turn it into a brand itself. It’s basically a label dedicated to releasing quality house music by new and well-established artists and producers in the music industry. Our first release will be out in September with a remix competition halfway through the month. We have some great artists on board like Wally Lopez, Sam Obernik, Byron Stingily, Jeremy Joshua, Alex Topspin & Dmit Kitz and many more.

LI: What’s next on the cards for Richard Dinsdale and what do you hope to achieve this time next year?

RD: I’ve been in talks with my manager and we are thinking about doing an album project over December plus we want to take our label to various clubs next year putting on a night called Tanzanite’s and we are in talks about starting a new residency at a certain super club in Ibiza next year. Plus I want to continue to do what I’m doing right now and that living in my studio 24/7 making music for my label, other labels and making crossover backing tracks for certain artists.

“Ibiza, You’ve got my love” xx thanks
