Ibiza’s Beautiful Beaches

Its midday and 28 degrees on the busy San Antonio beach. It’s crowded. Really, really crowded. All you want to do is lie back and feel the warm sand between your toes, listen to some serious chill out, and nod off as the waves splash onto the shore. Why not venture out of San An and take in some of the stunning beaches Ibiza has to offer?
First up, Playa Xinxo situated in San Antonio Bay. This small but perfectly formed beach is a viable option as it’s in walking distance from the West End (about 40 minutes). Alternatively jump in a taxi, where a 5-10 minute journey will cost about €5. The beach is clean and there are parasols and beds for hire. Alternatively, park up your lilo and towel, and lie in the sand. Pedalos and watersport excursions are available from the beach, a great idea if you want a good laugh. Peddling a boat out is easy; its getting it back to shore that works the leg muscles The best thing about this beach is the Global Reggae Bar, a small shack bar sitting on the sand, playing reggae music into the hot air. You don’t get more chilled out than that. Rasta themed cocktails are served too. There are shops, drinks kiosks and a hotel right next to the beach, with plenty of places to grab some lunch or just a snack.
Take a water taxi from San An harbour over to glorious Cala Bassa beach, only a 15 minute journey. You’ll think you’ve gone five star as you arrive on the white sands, with crystal blue waters and an air of pure tranquillity. This beach is a little more remote, with a couple of places to grab food and drinks nearby, but theres very little else to see, not that you’d need another thing!
Parasols and sunbeds are available to hire, and watersports including banana boat rides are available from vendors on the jetty. Inspect the area a little closer on foot and you’ll find shady pine forestry and rocky climbs taking you to Hermit’s Garden, the dwelling place of a hermit who lives in the caves of the Island. You might even catch a glimpse of him, or stumble across the religious artefacts he’s left behind.
If you’re looking for something to take your breath away, then Cala Conta beach is the place to head for. About 20 minutes in a ferry from San An harbour, Cala Conta is a very popular beach with families, as the shallower waters are perfect for paddling in. The four beach coves are always packed, and if you need to top up the tan on those white bits then there’s a nudist section too. One of the coves are a prime spot for snorkelling, so check it out with a vendor when you get down there. Later, Cala Conta is in prime position to catch Ibiza’s legendary sunset. With some brilliant restaurants near the beach, grab a table and watch it set. It’s an unforgettable experience.
