A bit of advice for Ibiza virgins, there's more about Ibiza Law here
Everyone knows that Ibiza is the hedonistic capital of the world. That reputation draws millions of visitors each season, from June through to October, and provides the lifeblood for much of the island's nightlife. While some may come to Ibiza for the beaches, the majority are eager to hit the clubs and party the night away.
Nightlife in Ibiza is a dizzying experience, particularly for those who have never been here before. Newcomers are often the most susceptible to disregarding the laws and a lack of information could turn the trip of a lifetime into a complete nightmare.
The laws in Ibiza regarding clubbing and drugging are pretty strict. The Guardia are not stupid nor are they tolerant. First of all, there is no drinking on the street. Club goers must be 18. The clubs are closely monitored and while they are eager for business, they are not going to risk getting slapped with heavy fines. Along with the clubbing experience is the opportunity to score almost any kind of drug imaginable from coke to ketamine to poppers. It's a rare opportunity for ravers to try something new. But caution is key.
Much like Amsterdam, Ibiza's tolerance policy is mythical - and mostly wrong. The police in Ibiza typically won't hassle the party goer who has 15 pills or less for personal use but anything over that falls under the "trafficking" and "intent to distribute" laws. This is then a very serious business. That holiday of a lifetime can go from touring the beautiful island to paying a long visit to a Spanish prison. And pretty much no one wants to go there.
