Es Cana Beach
Es Cana has grown around its beach, from a small village through to what is now one of the island’s most popular resorts. Despite this, the beach and the area around it have lost none of their appeal and have somehow managed to maintain much of their original character. The beach is a crescent of golden sand that is dotted with plenty of sun loungers and supervised by lifeguards which makes it a good choice for families.
The crystal clear waters are perfect for swimming as the waves are not rough and the beach shelves gently into the sea rather than there being a steep or rocky drop. There’s a good variety of watersports available at Es Cana, including pedalos, parasailing and a banana boat and you can also wile away the hours fishing off the end of Es Cana’s harbour (although you might only catch some seaweed..)
The beach is a popular spot for the island’s boat trips and you can jump on board for a day trip to the nearby island of Formentera or more locally to Santa Eulalia and Ibiza Town. If the beach at Es Cana starts to feel a bit tame you are within easy reach of a number of other beaches such as Cala Martina which is just a stroll to the south of Es Cana and particularly popular with scuba divers.
Es Cana is the location for the legendary Ibiza hippy market so if you happen to be visiting the beach on a Wednesday you can stock up on friendship bracelets and clay pipes. The beach is not exactly a culinary hot spot and probably does pale in comparison to nearby Santa Eulalia with its ‘Restaurant Street’ and wide range of cuisines. Having said that, you’re unlikely to go hungry as Es Cana is well populated with cafes and restaurants serving up the most popular kinds of holiday grub.
As well as the boats that regularly arrive on the beach at Es Cana, you can get to the resort by bus or you can drive.
